the path to perfect wine enjoyment does not begin only when you open the bottle, but already with the careful storage of your wine treasures. Proper storage is crucial so that your wine can develop its full aroma. Here you will find some essential tips on how to let your wines mature optimally at home.
1. Keep the temperature constant
For most wines, a storage temperature between 10C and 15C is ideal. What matters is that the temperature stays as constant as possible. Temperature fluctuations can disrupt the aging process and change the wine negatively.
2. Protect the wine from light
Protect your wine from direct sunlight and artificial light. UV rays can trigger chemical reactions in the wine that impair its aroma. Dark places are therefore best suited for storage.
3. Pay attention to the right humidity
Humidity of 60-70% is ideal to keep corks moist and airtight. If the air is too dry, corks can shrink, exposing the wine to the risk of oxidation.
4. Store wine bottles lying down
Wine bottles should be stored lying down so that the cork stays moist through contact with the wine. This preserves its elasticity and prevents air from entering the bottle and oxidizing the wine. This of course only applies to wines with natural cork. With alternative closures such as screw caps or glass stoppers, wines can of course also be stored upright.
5. Avoid vibrations
Regular movement or vibrations can impair the wine’s aging process. Therefore choose a stable storage location free of vibrations – away from washing machines or heavily trafficked areas.
6. Choose the storage location carefully
Not everyone has a traditional wine cellar, but you can also create suitable conditions in your apartment, for example with a wine fridge or a cool, dark cupboard. In our app you can also create various storage locations.
7. Be clear about variety and vintage
Not all wines are meant for long storage. Inform yourself about the aging potential of your wines and plan their enjoyment accordingly. Some wines reach their full glory already in their youth, while others benefit from longer storage.
With these tips you can ensure that every sip of your wine becomes an unforgettable taste experience. Enjoy collecting, storing, and above all drinking your wines!
